Excerpt from Adult Bible Study:

The number one reason we are to pray to the Lord is because He (His Word) commands us to do so. It is His all (desire) for us to pray.

We must pray in order to be saved, to find forgiveness.

When we stand praying we are to do what? We are to forgive so we may be forgiven.

This brings humbleness. Thus we are to pray to develop a humble spirit.
